The champion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive a $50 million prize, part of a record financial allocation for the tournament from FIFA, the governing body announced on Wednesday.
In total, FIFA has announced a record contribution of $727 million.
Of this amount, $655 million will be distributed based on the final classification in the tournament, a 50% increase from the $440 million allocated for Qatar 2022.
The remaining $72 million will be distributed at a rate of $1.5 million to each of the 48 participants, with the aim of "covering preparation costs."
The 2026 World Cup, to be held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will be the first to feature 48 participants, a 50% increase from 2022.
Following Argentina's victory in the previous edition, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) received $42 million, compared to the $30 million won by France as the runner-up.
This time, the runner-up team will receive $33 million; the 3rd-place team, $29 million; and the fourth-place team, $27 million.
The amount decreases progressively, to a minimum of $9 million for teams eliminated in the group stage.
