Cuban Symphony Orchestra to Record Popularly Symphonic Project

Havana,  (Prensa Latina) The National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba (OSN) will give a concert on Sunday in this capital to record the seventh and final installment of the Popularly Symphonic project.

The concert will be given entirely by the orchestra, which will be directed by Maestro Enrique Perez Mesa, and they will record iconic songs from Cuban popular music, including Santa Cecilia, by Manuel Corona; Ojos Malignos, by Adolfo Pichardo; Esas no Son Cubanas, by Ignacio Piñeiro; La Lupe, by Juan Almeida Bosque; Para Barbara, by Santiago Feliu, and Tal Vez, by Juan Formell.

Each song has been arranged and orchestrated again for production by several of the most experienced and recognized musicians in Cuba, such as Joaquin Betancourt, Rafael Guedes and Orlando Vistel.

The recording of Popularly Symphonic VII will take place at the Cobarrubias Hall of the National Theater at 5:00 pm, local time, by the Producciones Colibri, the recording label of the Cuban Music Institute.

The Popularly Symphonic project has its genesis over a decade ago, when the Cuban musicians Rafael Guedes and Adolfo Costales proposed to Colibri to record a series of CDs with the symphony orchestras of Cuba as protagonists.

The essence of the proposal was to select several of the most significant Cuban popular songs, about 100, in which the symphony orchestras of Villa Clara, Oriente, Matanzas, Camagüey, Holguin and the Higher Institute of Art participated.
