High anticipation surrounds the art market as a remarkable collection of ceramics by renowned Spanish artist Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) is set to go under the hammer this Thursday in Geneva.
“This is a truly exceptional collection. The plates and dishes we have here are genuine Picasso works,” said Bernard Piguet, director of the Piguet Auction House in Geneva.
According to Piguet, the pieces are unique works that once belonged to the celebrated painter and sculptor. In the early 1980s, Picasso’s heirs gifted them to a friend.
The ceramics, adorned with motifs such as doves, fish, a goat, a bull, and a bird, are expected to fetch over $60,000.
Created between 1947 and 1963 at the Madoura workshop in Vallauris, on the southeastern coast of France, the collection is being shown to the public for the first time ahead of the sale.
