United Nations, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) The high-level segment of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly closes Monday in New York after hearing a high number of heads of State, from about 100 countries.
According to preliminary figures, five summits were held during this event, they were climate action, universal health coverage, Sustainable Development Goals, financing development and support to small island states.
During the general debate, which opened on September 24 and will end Monday, leaders from nearly 40 countries raised their voices against the blockade the United States has maintained against Cuba almost 60 years ago and called to end that policy that prevents the development of that nation.
The need to address climate change and promote further actions in the face of this environmental crisis, as well as the urgency of accelerating progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals were also repeatedly discussed.
Some analysts noted great concern about the statements in the Assembly of a group of countries that want to impose a unipolar world, as demonstrated -for example- in the speech of US President Donald Trump, and Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro, and in their strong attacks against socialism in nations such as Cuba and Venezuela.
But the attempts to prevent the participation of the delegation of the Caracas government in the general debate failed, despite the fact that some States even accredited within their delegations alleged representatives of the self-proclaimed Venezuelan president Juan Guaido.
Since September 24, world leaders have been participating at the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly in New York to address global problems and try to find arranged solutions.
