New Exhibit Showcases Work of Famed Che Guevara Photographer

Original images taken by Che Guevara's personal photographer, Alberto Korda, will be on show at the Centro Cultural Borges in Buenos Aires until the end of February.

Photos taken by the famed Cuban photographer Alberto Diaz Gutierrez will be exhibited at the Centro Cultural Borges art gallery in Argentine capital Buenos Aires from Monday until Feb. 28.

The retrospective will feature 110 photos, including images from the Cuban Revolution, such as the iconic photo of Che Guevara entitled “Guerrillero Heroico” (heroic guerrilla), and an assortment of portrait images taken largely in Cuba.

Gutierrez, more commonly known as Alberto Korda, rose to prominence during the Cuban Revolution when he became fascinated with the movement's leaders and began photographing their rise to power.

After the revolution, Korda became the personal photographer for Che Guevara, accompanying the revolutionary around Cuba and to numerous foreign countries, including the Soviet Union.

Despite his illustrious career as a political photographer, Korda famously admitted that his original goal was rather different.

"I wanted to become a famous fashion photographer so I could be with the most beautiful women of Cuba," he admitted in his last interview, months before his death in Paris in 2001.

The Cuban Revolution supporter, claimed no payment for his picture “Guerrillero Heroico,” which became one of the world's most reproduced photos.

His daughter Diana is the curator of the exhibition.
