The president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, begins today a visit to India, whose people, regardless of distance, are always close to Cuba.

The anti-imperialist stance of the Caribbean nation and the defense of its people and its democracy against threats to its sovereignty by the United States motivate and inspire those who still fight for their rights in various parts of the world, Tapan Sen, general secretary of the Central Indian Trade Unions (CITU), told Prensa Latina.

This explains the numerous displays of solidarity for Cubans within the South Asian nation, the most recent of which occurred in connection with the vote last week in the United Nations General Assembly against the blockade that Washington has imposed on the island for more than 60 years.

As demonstrated for the 32nd time by the international community at the UN, the working class of India made clear its rejection of this coercive measure that the White House maintains with the intention of trying to subjugate a people who decided to bet on their independence and democracy.

Regarding the event, the CITU carried out actions against the blockade of Cuba in localities of the states of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and in New Delhi, because it is important to be with Cuba not only for the island but also for all those people who are still fighting for their legitimate rights, according to Tapan Sen.

Our unions repudiate the criminal imperialist blockade of Washington against Cuba, which has created a kind of serious humanitarian crisis in that country, he specified.

On the other hand, Sen acknowledged that the resistance and resilience of the Cuban people also encourages the working class of the world, as it maintains an independent anti-imperialist position and at the same time its government empowers it and respects its rights in a socialist economy.

In addition, despite the enormous suffering caused by Washington's coercive measures, Cuba is united around a common cause, which is the defense of its democracy and therefore we must not allow imperialism to triumph, he emphasized.

The union leader also pointed out that the island is filled with inspiration in the confrontation with the threat of the neoliberal capitalist order, which in the current process of systemic crisis assumes an increasingly greater role of attack against the people.

Likewise, he expressed his confidence in the final victory of the Cubans in their fight against what he called the imperialist machinations of the United States and its allies, which, he affirmed, are the same ones they use against all free nations that do not bow to their neoliberal objectives.

In this regard, he pointed out that Cuba's victory will be inevitable in its struggle to safeguard its right to be free and independent in the system chosen by its people, in the face of the brutal economic war of the United States and all threats.
