Gibara Film Festival opens in Cuba

Music, films, awards, and tributes characterize the 18th Gibara International Film Festival, which opens in that eastern Cuban city on Tuesday until August 10.
Under the theme “Filma el Oriente!” (Eastern Cuba Filming), the first day includes a lecture on post-production services with representatives of Estudios Churubusco Azteca S.A. at the Cine Jiba, according to the event’s program.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Museum will host the documentary competition.
The Plaza Colon Hotel will invite reporters to a meeting to present the jurors and interact with artists and film professionals such as Eslinda Nuñez, Lola Amores, Mario Hernandez, and La Dany.
The presentation of the supporting program and the guests will take place at Casa Gitana. The opening parade of the 18th Gibara International Film Festival will take place at the Culture Square.
As usual, the Cine Jiba will host the opening gala, and filmmaker Manuel Herrera will receive the 2024 Lucia de Honor Award from his life partner, first-time actress Eslinda Nuñez.
The film “Sin Papeles” (Undocumented, 2023) by Chilean-Canadian director Christian de la Cortina will also be screened.
