Paris, Aug 11 (Prensa Latina) French academic and essayist Salim Lamrani on Thursday expressed confidence in the resistance of the Cuban people faced with difficulties and solidarity due to the fire that hit the industrial zone of Matanzas.

“Nature has once again shown itself merciless with Cuba, but the Cubans, accustomed to the blows of destiny, will know how to face adversity and challenges with the same firmness that has characterized their conduct throughout history,” Lamrani stressed in his message through Prensa Latina.

In that sense, he asserted that resilience is part of the Cuban idiosyncrasy, so Matanzas will recover and will show the world that Cuba is a country founded on fraternity, which never abandons its people in difficult times.

The Matanzas Supertanker Base suffered a fierce fire, after a lightning struck one of the fuel storage tanks of the facility on Friday, August 5, unleashing several explosions and a fire that spread to three other tanks.

On Wednesday, the authorities announced the fire was finally under control, although the deployment of forces remains in place to avoid setbacks and make a preliminary assessment of the damages caused by the incident that left two person dead, more than 120 injured and 14 missing, in addition to considerable material losses.
