The European community and the business sector of that region are closely watching the new measures announced by Cuba aimed at liberalizing foreign investment on the island, as emerged this Thursday at the 41st edition of the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2025).

The European presence at FIHAV is significant, with more than a dozen states and 130 companies attending this business forum.

EU Interest in New Reforms

In the keynote speech for European Union Day, celebrated this Thursday at Expocuba, Jens Urban, the ambassador of the regional body's delegation to Cuba, stated that "the new reforms announced by the Vice Prime Minister have generated significant interest," and following their implementation, "will bring much more motivation to European-area entrepreneurs."

He further affirmed that "they will continue working, exploring the possibilities this country offers for the mutual benefit of both parties."

Also present at the event, the Minister of Transport, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, thanked the ambassador, the business leaders, and other representatives of the union for their support to Cuba amidst significant economic changes in the spheres of foreign investment and international cooperation.

He similarly thanked the support and solidarity shown by the European Union in the country's eastern region, which was affected by Hurricane Melissa last October.

"We trust that the results of the event that brings us together today will contribute to strengthening the bilateral relationship."

"We reaffirm our full willingness to continue supporting the actions carried out by the European Union to further deepen its relations with Cuba," Rodríguez Dávila concluded.

Bet on Renewable Energy Development

This Thursday also saw the third call for Support for New Economic Actors associated with renewable energy development, an initiative backed by the European Union, the Embassy of France, and the United Nations Development Programme.

Regarding this call, Jens Urban stated that it constitutes an opportunity for Cuban companies with innovative ideas and projects in favor of clean energy.

The diplomat assessed the use and deployment of renewable energy sources to build more sustainable societies as very positive for Cuba and the world.

This initiative aims to strengthen new economic actors, with a focus on women and youth, as well as to improve access to international markets, resources, and financing.

Furthermore, the support helps stimulate innovation and promote the establishment of sustainable production chains among new actors in the Cuban economy.
