Members of the Cuban state mission, solidarity associations in Ethiopia, and the embassies of Nicaragua and Venezuela celebrated here today the 66th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution on the Caribbean island.

The occasion was a propitious one to welcome the ambassadors of Havana designated in Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez, and to the African Union, Lucas Domingo Hernández, who conveyed a greeting on behalf of the Cuban people and gratitude to the Ethiopians trained in the island for the constant displays of solidarity.

Suárez specified that in 2025 both countries will commemorate 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations, while he announced the preparation of a day of activities on occasion of the anniversary on July 18.

He stressed that the first activity in the African nation was with the Ethiopians because they represented the values of the Cuban Revolution that triumphed on January 1, 1959.

He recalled that 2024 was a difficult year for Cubans due to the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government, including the persecution of those who wanted to carry out commercial operations with the largest of the Antilles.

Despite the difficult panorama, he stressed, the people of Cuba have resisted and are willing to pay whatever price is necessary for not giving in to this unilateral and extraterritorial measure.

Hernández, for his part, commented that the Ethiopians educated in Havana are children of their homeland because they were born there, but they are also Cubans because they were educated in the Caribbean country and represent love, solidarity and understanding between peoples.

The president of the Association of Friendship between the Peoples of Ethiopia and Cuba, Abebe Ayalew, assured that the more than five thousand graduates of the island are also Cuban ambassadors and reiterated support for the government and people of that country.
