Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated today the national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, Francisco Duran, and the Hero of the Republic, Gerardo Hernandez, on the occasion of their birthdays.

"Two heroes of Cuba are celebrating their birthdays: Gerardo Hernández and Francisco Durán. To them our congratulations and a big hug for all they have done for the Homeland. Have a good Sunday!" the head of state stressed on his Twitter account.

Gerardo Hernández, an International Relations graduate, is one of the revolutionaries internationally known as The Five, who infiltrated violent groups in Miami to warn about their activities.

Meanwhile, Francisco Durán was the visible face of the country in the campaign against the Covid-19 pandemic, through television conferences in which he gave updates on the island's health situation.

In turn, the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) described Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), as the pride of the nation, when congratulating him on the occasion of his 58th birthday.

 "A hero of Cuba, of the people, pride of the nation and moreover, deputy, member of the Council of State and of the Central Committee of the PCC, leader of our largest mass organization, is on his birthday," the political organization expressed.

The PCC congratulated on its Twitter account the anti-terrorist fighter to whom it wished "Congratulations Gerardo Hernandez. Good health to continue fighting the battle.

Also the deputies of the National Assembly of People's Power and Cuban authorities sent congratulations to the Hero of the Republic, one of the young revolutionaries known internationally as The Five, who infiltrated violent groups in Miami to prevent criminal actions against the Caribbean country.

Hernández Nordelo was released on December 17, 2014 as part of a humanitarian agreement reached between the U.S. and Cuban governments
