BEIJING, CHINA – Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, held a meeting with members of the Cuban medical mission currently providing services in various provinces of China, including hard-to-reach areas such as the Tibet region.
According to a thread posted by the Cuban Presidency on the social media platform X, the meeting took place as part of the President's official visit to the People's Republic of China. During the encounter, the collaborators shared their experiences living in a millennia-old culture profoundly different from their own, where they face challenges such as the language barrier and extreme geographical conditions.
The post emphasized that President Díaz-Canel inquired about their living conditions, the frequency of their vacations, their connection with family members back in Cuba, and the personal and professional impact of their work on Chinese soil.
It was highlighted that the Cuban doctors serving in China today are the heirs of a mission initiated by the historic leader Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016) and continued by dozens of professionals who, over 21 years, have brought the humanism and excellence of Cuban medicine to this nation.
The source noted that the Cuban head of state acknowledged the collaborators' solid professional training and human quality, describing the meeting as “a true learning experience about a mission that is little known in Cuba.” He emphasized the value of their contribution to international health and to the country's prestige.
The medical mission in China is part of bilateral cooperation efforts in the health sector and stands as an example of solidarity and ethical commitment between the two nations, even in complex scenarios.
