The possibility of establishing direct flights between St. Petersburg and Havana is being considered. This was announced on May 5 by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez during a meeting with the governor of the city, Alexander Beglov.

"An international tourism exhibition was held in Cuba last week. We are working on exchanges in the tourism sector so that tourists from St. Petersburg can come to us. Options are being considered for establishing direct flights between St. Petersburg and Havana," RIA Novosti quoted the Cuban president as saying.

In addition, St. Petersburg and Cuba continue to develop bilateral cooperation in various fields, according to a statement posted on the website of the city administration. It is specified that the city government is working on mechanisms for the admission of Cuban students to secondary vocational education institutions. There are also plans to admit students to Russian universities within the government quota for foreign citizens.

After Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, that decision could be reversed

Earlier, on May 4, the press service of the administration of St. Petersburg announced the arrival of the head of Cuba to Russia to celebrate the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It was reported that the anthems of the Russian Federation and Cuba were performed in honor of the visit.
