Deputy Gerardo Hernández, national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), praised the Cuban government's decision to increase pensions for over a million people.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Hernández described the measure as "very positive." The increase, announced the previous day in the National Assembly of People's Power (parliament), will take effect in September.

The raise will benefit 1,324,599 Cubans receiving monthly payments of up to 4,000 pesos for old age, disability, or spousal death benefits. Hernández, also a Hero of the Republic of Cuba, stated that this reaffirms the government's policy of supporting vulnerable sectors.

He noted that a significant portion of the population, including retirees, pensioners, and social assistance beneficiaries, struggles with limited resources due to the country's complex economic situation. In this context, the newly announced state support exemplifies the social commitment of the Revolution, which redistributes financial resources to the most vulnerable groups.

Despite current challenges, Hernández pointed to signs of economic recovery that enable the government to assist these populations. He emphasized that neither the problem nor the state's response is new, as the revolutionary process upholds the principle of leaving no Cuban unprotected.

Regrettably, he added, some on social media criticize the situation of vulnerable groups while ignoring government efforts. These same voices, he argued, support the unjust and criminal U.S. blockade imposed on Cuba for over 60 years.

In this regard, Hernández stressed that Cubans "must not sit back and wait for the economic, financial, and commercial siege to be lifted, but rather work daily to generate wealth that will later be distributed among all."
