Bolivian President Luis Arce voiced strong support today for Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel following new U.S. visa restrictions imposed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, denouncing the measures as "illegal" and "arrogant."
In a social media post, Arce stated: "From the Plurinational State of Bolivia, we stand with our brother @DiazCanelB against the Trump administration's latest overreach – expanding sanctions against Cuba and restricting visas for President Miguel Díaz-Canel and other government officials."
The Bolivian leader criticized what he called Washington's hypocrisy, writing on X: "North American imperialism attempts to lecture about justice while lacking any moral standing, disrespecting peoples' right to self-determination, violating Cuba's sovereignty, and denying freedom of movement."
Arce framed the sanctions as an affront to all Latin American nations: "The 21st century demands unity among Latin American and Caribbean peoples to defend our dignified, sovereign governments from foreign superpowers. Down with the blockade! No to interventionism!"
The statement reinforces regional solidarity among leftist governments, coming hours after similar declarations from Venezuela's Nicolás Maduro. The U.S. State Department's Friday announcement targeted Díaz-Canel and multiple cabinet members, including Cuba's defense and interior ministers, with expanded travel bans.
