The secretary-general of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Sancha Llorenti, stated on Thursday that the peoples of the world are with Cuba in its struggle against the United States blockade.

On his Twitter account, the Bolivian politician noted that the “peoples of the world accompany the fair and legitimate condemnation of the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States illegally imposes on Cuba.”

Llorenti thus responded to an official announcement by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, who said that Havana will present the draft resolution against the US blockade at the United Nations General Assembly for the thirtieth time.

“That policy has an impact today, as never before, on Cuban families inside and outside the country. #Cuba has the right to live without a blockade #BetterWithoutBlockade,” the Cuban foreign minister denounced on Twitter.

In the video accompanying the tweet, the head of Cuban diplomacy stated that the economic, commercial, and financial blockade has caused damages totaling 6.364 billion dollars in the first 14 months of the Joe Biden administration.

The blockade, he stressed, hinders development and prevents income that could be used for the people’s welfare, while Washington persists in ignoring the demands of the international community by intensifying the punitive measure to unprecedented levels, he said.

Rodriguez added that the blockade “has been a failed policy” with the objective of subverting constitutional order in Cuba.

However, he stressed, “it causes shortages, pain and unjustifiable suffering to Cuban families” by limiting their access to food, medicines, fuel and other basic needs.”

He pointed out that the US blockade causes real and significant harm to the human rights of Cubans and third countries. The Donald Trump administration (2017-2021) imposed more than 200 new measures that intensified the blockade against Cuba, the vast majority of which the current occupant of the White House has kept in force.
