After the visit of Mexico’s Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries, and Food (SAGARPA), Jose Calzada Rovirosa, Cuba authorized the exports of Mexican meat-based products since the necessary paperwork with Cuba’s Institute of Veterinary Medicine (IVM) was done.

During the visit, Calzada Rovirosa met with Minister of Food Industry, Maria del Carmen Concepcion Gonzalez, Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca as well as the Minister of Agriculture Gustavo Rodriguez Rollero.

Mexico’s National Service for Agro-Food Safety and Quality (Senasica), was SAGARPA’S body to negotiate with Cuban IVM.

The IVM’s resolution includes the approval of states like Baja California, South Baja California, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Sonora, Tamaulipas, Colima, Chihuahua, Mexico City, and Yucatan as free from highly pathogenic avian influenza.

Such resolution will be current up to February 18th, 2018.

It is already feasible the exports of dairy and beef products, as well as pork meat and mutton from Mexico.

Thus, once approved the Animal Health Certificate by both countries, Cuba will be able to import fresh poultry meat, and eggs from those Mexican states.
