Cuban water reservoirs at only 35% of full capacity

A total of 165 dams are under 50% of useful filling in Cuba. To be exact, 118 of them are under 25%. But it is worse in 26 of them, as they are all empty.

By the end of July, the INRH^*´s 242 water reservoirs were able to hold 3 224 million cubic meters of water, which represents the 35% of the total.

According to some data released by the INHR´s National Hydrological Service, this volume is around 2 058 m3 lower than the historical average in July.

Provinces like Ciego de Avila (11%), Sancti Spiritus (13%), Granma (15%), Las Tunas (16%), Santiago de Cuba (19%), Camaguey (24%), and Pinar del Rio (25%) are undoubtedly the most critical.

July was a very dry month. The behavior of rainfalls was only of 89,6 millimeters nationally, which is 67% of the historical average.

Taking into account the critical situation, the INRH is carrying out a set of measures to reduce the drought havoc.

Using the water efficiently, and avoiding water waste in both, residential and State sector are certainly the best antidote to face this more and more frequently phenomenon in Cuba.
