Qatar Interested in Expanding Cuba's Medical Collaboration

The Qatari government recognized the prestige of the Cuban Hospital in Dukhan and was interested in expanding Cuba''s medical collaboration, in addition of exploring investment opportunities in the island, a diplomatic source stressed today. According to a note from the Cuban embassy in Doha, Qatari Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, examined the state of bilateral relations with Cuban ambassador here, Ernesto Plasencia, during a fraternal meeting. Al-Thani expressed Plasencia the acceptance and prestige he has between the local population and the hospital in the town of Dukhan, directed by Cuban health professionals and technicians, and reiterated Doha's interest in expanding the medical collaboration with Havana.
The prime minister also became clear his country's willingness to explore investment opportunities Cuba is offering to boost trade ties, favored by a more attractive legislation for foreign investors.
The Cuban diplomat thanked the reception to the Cuban professionals since his arrival to this Arab nation, and stressed the willingness to maintain cooperation with Qatar in health and expand it to other nations.
Placencia also spoke out for strengthening bilateral ties and praised the support by the Qatari government to the resolution Cuba presents every year at the UN General Assembly demanding the lifting of the economic blockade imposed more than 50 years by the United States.
