President Miguel Díaz-Canel today highlighted the "resounding" support Cuba received at the UN Human Rights Council, where the economic siege maintained by the United States against the island was denounced.

"The report presented by the Special Rapporteur on Unilateral Coercive Measures demonstrates that the blockade violates the human rights of the Cuban people," the president wrote on his X account.

In another message, Díaz-Canel stated that the U.S. government "fails to confuse or disorient the international community with its lies, threats, and aggressions."

The first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba also stressed the urgency of complying with the recommendations received and letting Cuba "live in peace."

On September 8 and 9, the report by Special Rapporteur Alena Douhan on the negative repercussions of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights in the Caribbean nation was presented before the United Nations.

Special Rapporteur Zaina Jallad, tasked with presenting the report, demanded the lifting of Washington's unilateral coercive measures, which have been reinforced since January of this year.

Furthermore, the report underscores the use of maximum-pressure campaigns, threats against third states and individuals, and Cuba's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Since the Rapporteur's visit, the U.S. blockade has been reinforced to unprecedented levels, including the imposition of an energy siege and secondary sanctions.
