National Commissioner Robinson Poll informed the digital newspaper JIT that the group of fighters, training under head coach Eulises Pouyot, includes three of the boxers who participated in the recent XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026.
These athletes are Central American and Caribbean runners-up Alejandro Claro (60 kg) and Yunier Sorsano (70 kg), as well as Tashkent 2023 world runner-up Saidel Horta (65 kg).
Completing the Cuban squad are Jorge Cuéllar (80 kg), Nelson Williams (90 kg), and Erick Daniel Castillo (+90 kg).
Coach Pouyot specified that the remaining members of the island's elite team continue working at the national boxing school. He also explained that moving Claro, Horta, and Cuéllar to higher weight classes, alongside the inclusion of Cuéllar, Williams, and Castillo, aligns with the Cuban coaches' goal to evaluate new options during this phase.
The distribution of spots for the Lima 2027 boxing event was assigned to the continental championship set to take place from October 17 to 25 in Puebla, Mexico, where four spots per division will be contested across the seven men's and women's categories.
Subsequently, the second option to secure qualifying spots (three per category) is expected to be organized in the first quarter of next year, though official dates and venues have not yet been announced.
