Díaz-Canel Thanks Mexico for Solidarity with Cuba

Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, thanked the Mexican people for their demonstrations of support for the island during a march held this Sunday in Mexico City on the occasion of National Rebellion Day.

On the social network X, the head of state acknowledged the mobilization carried out on July 26 along Paseo de la Reforma to mark the 73rd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks—an event that marked the beginning of the process leading to the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959.

Eugenio Martínez Enríquez, Cuba's ambassador to Mexico, reported on his official Facebook profile that U.S. government pressure on his country motivated Mexican organizations to unify their commemoration of the date, unlike in previous years.

Thousands of people marched from the Hemicentro a Juárez to the former site of the U.S. embassy, where they demanded an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington against Cuba.

Contingents carried flags and banners with messages supporting the sovereignty of the Caribbean nation and rejected coercive measures that hinder its development.

At the end of the route, organizers announced that these protest events will take place more frequently in Mexico City as an expression of permanent solidarity with Cuba.
