Cuba Contemporary Dance Company: Saturday and Sunday at the Avellaneda Hall

Schedule Adjusted for Premiere and Revival Due to Transportation Challenges
The performances of the premiere of Waves and Edges and the revival of Consagración by the Cuba Contemporary Dance Company will take place only on Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th at 5:00 p.m. at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater.
The change was proposed by the National Council of Performing Arts, considering the country's current situation where transportation is difficult. Therefore, the starting times for both Saturday and Sunday were modified, and the performance originally scheduled for Friday was canceled.
Insight into the New Work 'Waves and Edges'
Regarding the piece to premiere this season, the company's director, Miguel Iglesias, told the Cuban News Agency that it will be a great surprise for the public able to attend the presentation and that he hopes it will be well received by the audience.
Waves and Edges is a new choreography by Belarusian artist Olga Labovkina, a dancer and dance researcher who has consolidated an interdisciplinary professional profile (dance, theater, and visual arts) based on her interest in human relationships, non-verbal language, and the expressive possibilities of the human body.
Regarding this, Iglesias explained that Labovkina has a very intuitive and quite surprising world—a quality he also uses to describe the work, as it is different, conveying not just one single thing or specific message. He noted that upon seeing the staging, the audience will be able to understand the title from the movement that simulates waves reaching edges and continuing their flow.
Revival of 'Consagración' and Final Invitation
Also, as announced, they will present Consagración by French choreographers Christophe Béranger and Jonathan Pranlas—a work that departs from the famous ballet The Rite of Spring by Nijinsky with music by Stravinsky and conducts a profound exploration of Cuban identity, articulating tradition and contemporaneity.
Finally, Iglesias invited the public to the Avellaneda Hall next Saturday and Sunday, where followers and admirers of the Cuba Contemporary Dance Company will be able to witness the rigor of a company committed to dance art for nearly 67 years, both on domestic stages and internationally, representing the best of this artistic branch alongside the work of renowned choreographers worldwide.
