Over Six Million Signatures Reaffirm Cuba’s Commitment to Peace
The signatures of more than 6.23 million Cubans have once again confirmed the nation’s commitment to peace, in defense of national sovereignty, and in opposition to the blockade and war.
The announcement marking the conclusion of the process, driven by Cuban civil society, took place in the presence of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic. The event occurred during nationwide celebrations of International Workers’ Day on May 1, under the slogan: “The Homeland is defended.”
Each year, the archipelago becomes a global reference point for the celebration of the working class and a demonstration of the Caribbean nation’s resilience in the face of intensified threats and aggression from U.S. imperialism.
In the past week, numerous collectives, institutions, representatives of Cuban civil society, and communities joined the popular movement “My Signature for the Homeland.”
The initiative, called by the head of state during the ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist character of the Revolution on April 16, has evolved into a national and international movement of solidarity, carrying Cuba’s message to every corner of the world.
This signature campaign, which officially began on April 19 in Playa Girón with the participation of President Díaz-Canel and the leadership of the Revolution, spread across workplaces, communities, and institutions throughout the country. It has also received support from intellectuals, artists, journalists, and workers from various sectors, as well as from Cuban diplomatic missions abroad and prominent international figures.
