Denys Ramos: I really enjoyed the process of understanding Fabian

Denys Ramos is the kind of actor you always appreciate, whether in a play or a soap opera. It doesn't matter if he's playing a lead or a supporting role, because in his hands, the characters grow and become great. For him, there are no small roles.

Right now, his name is Fabián, and amidst love and heartbreak, he travels from Havana to Ojo de Agua, always passing by our homes—the homes of the viewers who, thanks to the lightbulb, faithfully follow the drama broadcast on Cubavisión.

Regarding his participation in this film, we spoke with the talented Cuban actor:

“I had already worked with Luberta several times, in *Lucha contra bandidos*, for example, and we've always had a very good professional relationship… We even did a previous soap opera together where I had a very small role as the wanderer, the vagabond Manolito. When he called me for this telenovela, I was in a period where I wasn't accepting any work. But he asked me to do it, saying he thought it would be good for me, so, well, I fell into the trap of the directors' persuasive power and I did it, even forcing myself psychologically because I was truly exhausted. I was in a state of mental and physical exhaustion.”

You've had to play a character with some positive qualities (a good father, for example) but with many flaws. What's the process like for getting into a role like that? Can the actor judge the character at any point, or do they need to understand and even justify them?

“Actually, at first I didn't judge him that much, nor did I think he was a victim. I saw a character with a situation in his life that led him to become a little unstable, and I understood that these are human processes where anyone can find themselves. I tried to believe in him as much as possible to understand his process, why he decided to do some things and not others. What he said was also a bit different from how I would react or speak, but I enjoyed it a lot, I enjoyed the process of understanding him, but never of judging him. I think we sometimes judge characters because we have different personalities, but the main thing is to believe in them. And that's how I came to like him, to understand him, and I tried to do the best I could, really.

What new projects are you working on?

“Right now I'm immersed in a series, playing a very special character, for which we've been researching for two years, and I can't reveal anything yet, but I have high expectations for this new project.”
