Six Cuban Films in the Pre-Selection for the Platinum Awards

Cuban Productions 'Calle 232' and 'Baracoa' Among Pre-Selected Works
Two Cuban productions, Calle 232 and Baracoa, are among the works pre-selected for the thirteenth edition of the Platinum Awards XCARET, a competition that celebrates the best of Ibero-American cinema.
These works are part of six productions from the Caribbean island included in the list of 258 selected titles, following an initial phase that evaluated over 1,200 entries from 23 Ibero-American countries, informed the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC).
Synopses of the Selected Films
Calle 232, directed by Rudy Mora, tells the story of an artist marked by the abandonment of colleagues, friends, and family, who finds support in a young caregiver; from this relationship arises a transformative friendship that redefines their lives.
Meanwhile, Baracoa, by filmmaker Luis Ernesto Doñas, follows the journey of Felipe, an Italian revolutionary naturalized as Cuban, accompanied by Pepe and the doctor Jimmi on a trip to the country's easternmost city—a journey that becomes an experience of profound transformation.
Recognition of Cuban Cinema's Strength
The Platinum Awards, created by the Audiovisual Producers' Rights Management Entity (EGEDA) together with the Ibero-American Federation of Cinematographic and Audiovisual Producers (FIPCA), the Ibero-American Federation of Film Academies and Sciences (FIACINE), Latin Artist, and with the support of film institutes from the region, have incorporated 12 new categories this year to broaden recognition for industry professionals and disciplines.
Cuba's presence in this pre-selection reaffirms the strength of its cinematography on the international stage, where the Platinum Awards are consolidated as a platform of visibility and prestige for Ibero-American audiovisual creation, added ICAIC on its social media, stating it will continue to provide updates on this event.
