Sextet Ecos del Tivolí Receives Double Nomination for Cubadisco 2026

Sexteto Ecos del Tivolí
The Sextet Ecos del Tivolí, a prominent representative of Cuban son from Santiago, has added two nominations for Cubadisco 2026 in the Heritage category to its list of achievements, Jorge Félix Cambet, the group’s leader, told Prensa Latina today.
Cambet explained that the album Yo soy el son—the ninth production by Ecos del Tivolí, nominated in the Traditional Son category—consists of 10 tracks, all written by composer and General and Executive Producer Jorge Javier González. The album was recorded at the private Mandaria Records studios in Santiago de Cuba.
The musician acknowledged the work of Robertico Andux and Julio Isaac Palacio, who recorded, mixed, and mastered the volume, as well as the arrangements and the entire musical production handled by Pedro Dariel Dominico, a former bassist for Ecos del Tivolí.
Cambet described Yo soy el son as a distinct album due to the participation of many guest musicians, including three singers and a percussionist from Puerto Rico. He also praised José Manuel García, a producer from the Bismusic record label, the entity through which the album was licensed nationally.
The group is also nominated in the audiovisual category for the first time, a milestone that the director and instrumentalist described as highly significant, given the impact of audiovisual media on the promotion of traditional Cuban music.
He explained that the audiovisual piece is based on the album Yo soy el son and was filmed at the headquarters of the Teatro Estudio Macubá in this city, under the direction of filmmaker Ray Mila. He already considers both nominations to be a resounding success.
