The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, in response to the arbitrary, unjustified, and hostile decision by the government of the Republic of Ecuador to declare all accredited Cuban diplomatic, consular, and administrative personnel persona non grata in that country, and faced with the impossibility of maintaining a diplomatic representation, has decided to relinquish the property used as the seat of the Embassy of Cuba and to remove, with immediate effect, all attributes and identifying symbols of its diplomatic mission in Quito.

Consequently, as of 10:00 a.m. (Quito time) today, March 6, 2026, the property that has until now housed the Embassy of Cuba in Ecuador ceases its functions as a diplomatic headquarters.

The government of Cuba deeply regrets the unilateral and unfriendly action by the government of Ecuador, which undermines the spirit of respect and cooperation that has historically characterized bilateral relations between both countries.

This decision was officially conveyed on March 5, 2026, by the Embassy of Cuba in Quito to the Ecuadorian authorities.

Havana, March 6, 2026
