More Victories for Cuba at Boxing Independence Cup

Cuba's male boxers remain undefeated at the Santiago de los Caballeros 2026 Boxing Independence Cup, with Saidel Horta securing his second victory and Nelson Williams triumphing in his debut.

Saidel Horta secured his second success, Nelson Williams debuted victoriously, and Cuba maintained its unbeaten record in the men's segment of the Santiago de los Caballeros 2026 Boxing Independence Cup.

Horta (60 kg), the Tashkent 2023 world runner-up, defeated local fighter Ezequiel Medina, while Williams (90 kg), champion of the previous edition, overcame fellow home representative Patricio Polonia.

Now there are six victories for the Island's men in that Dominican city, adding to the two wins from Olympic champion Erislandy Álvarez (65 kg) and one from two-time Olympic gold medalist Julio César la Cruz (+90 kg).

Among the women, who also number four, Yailema Palomo (51 kg) was eliminated in her initial outing, while world championship competitors Dayira Mesa (70 kg), Yoana Rodríguez (75 kg), and Magda Massó (57 kg) have yet to compete.
