The Union of Base Trade Unions (USB), one of Italy's main labor unions, sent a message of solidarity to the Cuban Workers' Federation (CTC) in response to the intensification of the US blockade against Cuba.

A statement published on the Italian union’s official website expresses unconditional support for the Cuban people following US President Donald Trump’s recent approval of an executive order threatening to raise tariffs on countries that send oil to the island.

In the statement, the USB once again condemned the infamous economic, commercial, and financial blockade that US imperialism has imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years and announced its decision to hold extraordinary political mobilizations in all Italian cities to denounce the tightening of these measures.

To that end, the union will convene all regional and local federations to carry out initiatives in support of the Caribbean nation and its people’s struggle in defense of their Revolution.

The US government “cannot tolerate the existence of a country like Cuba, which has showed that another world is possible, with socialism,” the text states.

The leadership and members of the USB also express their confidence that “the Cuban people, its workers, will face with their heads held high the new and extremely difficult challenge launched by Trump and US imperialism,” the message adds.
