Forest Fire of Moderate Proportions Under Control in Pinar del Río

Forces from the Pinar del Río Ranger Corps (CGB) and the Flora and Fauna Enterprise brought a forest fire of moderate proportions under control today. The blaze originally broke out Sunday afternoon in the area known as “El Sitio,” located in the municipality of La Palma.
Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Perera Burón, head of the CGB in the province, explained to the Cuban News Agency that 30 hectares of forest have been affected, including 15 hectares of pine trees and the remainder consisting of shrub vegetation.
He noted that teams are currently conducting a “soot watch” and patrol rounds to ensure full extinction, while light rains were also reported in the area today.
The containment efforts within the “Mil Cumbres” protected area were carried out by ranger brigades from the municipalities of Viñales and La Palma, along with Flora and Fauna personnel from the latter territory.
An additional 47 forest fires have been reported in Pinar del Río from January to date, resulting in damage to 2,915.6 hectares.
