ETECSA Drives Innovation and Expansion of Services

Impulsa ETECSA apuesta por la innovación y ampliación de servicios
For the Telecommunications Company of Cuba S.A., innovation is not an isolated event, but a process that involves the entire organization and combines experience, young talent, and strategic vision for the advancement of telecommunications, technological sovereignty, and the well-being of the Cuban population.
With this maxim, the entity welcomed the celebrations for World Creativity and Innovation Day on April 21, reinforcing an environment that encourages problem-solving based on the ingenuity of its workers. In this regard, the organization highlighted the potential of its research, development, and innovation (R&D+i) projects, as well as the challenges imposed by the adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence—issues that define the daily agenda of the work being undertaken.
According to information shared on its website, the 2026 R&D+i Portfolio at ETECSA includes more than 34 projects that directly impact the modernization of internal processes, operational efficiency, and the quality of services offered to the population. The source clarifies that "20 of them correspond to innovative solutions and eight to digital services, which also strengthen the company's capacity to generate its own technological products and solutions."
Furthermore, more than 3,000 workers are part of the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers (ANIR), while over 500 belong to the Youth Technical Brigades (BTJ). In the field of research, 26 professionals lead corporate R&D+i projects with the participation of 194 specialists, of whom 93 are women—a testament to a collective commitment that reflects the strength of human talent driving innovation, with an increasingly active female presence in technological development.
In recognition of this potential and its dedication to advancing the digitalization of society, at the end of 2025, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment granted ETECSA the status of a High Technology Enterprise. This distinction recognizes the company as a bridge between knowledge and production, noting the high qualifications of its human capital.
However, the activity does not stop there. To direct these efforts, thematic lines have been defined focusing on digital transformation, technological sovereignty, and import substitution. Key areas include the development of new digital products and services through the use of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, and cloud computing.
Experts specify that this transformation also prioritizes the evolution of systems and network infrastructures, featuring Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Open Radio Access Networks (Open RAN), and the evolution of mobile networks. Other lines of work include operations and business support systems for telecommunications, the efficient use and commercialization of data through advanced and predictive analytics, energy sustainability, cybersecurity, and process automation. These areas consolidate the vision of a modern, resilient company committed to the country's growth and technological development.
