World festival to vindicate Filin genre in Cuban music

Havana, Jun 17 (Prensa Latina) With the goal of vindicating the value of filin genre in the Cuban music, the Havana cultural agenda on Friday includes the celebration of the 1st Filin Festival, entitled ¨Bohemia Mía Filin Festival¨.

The new Festival, slated from June 21 to 23 and directed by singer-songwriter Osdalgia Lesmes, will feature prominent Filin singers.

During the concerts, colloquiums, record sales and launching, the Festival will be held in several venues in Havana, including the “Entre Dos” ARTEX Cultural Center, Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski, National Hotel of Cuba, ¨El Monseñor¨ Bar Restaurant, as well as ¨La Palma¨ Cultural Center.

Under the slogan ¨El Filin está en ti¨ (Filin is in you), this first World Festival will rescue the values of this genre through academic gatherings including the screening of documentaries and tributes to great Cuban figures and singer-songwriters such as Jose Antonio Mendez and Cesar Portillo de la Luz.

According to organizers, the Festival will also host a Musical Contest for composers, singers, instrumentalists and guitar players, who will star in three gala shows.

Plus, they reported the event will feature Felix Bernal, Bárbaro Marín, Niurka Reyes, Emilia Morales, Mundito González, Leo Montesinos, Nelson Camacho, Simón Ibáñez, Lily Nogueras, Dayri Llanes, Erick Durán, Josué Tacoronte, Jessica Rodríguez, Lynn Milanés, Rey Ugarte, Sheena, the Oh Mero septet, among others.
