Paris, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) Former environmentalist legislator François-Michel Lambert on Tuesday raised his voice in France to that of political organizations, social activists and trade unionists in solidarity with Cuba in the face of the fire raging at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.

In statements to Prensa Latina, the president of the France-Cuba Friendship Group in the previous legislature of the National Assembly (2017-2022) lamented the moments of pain that the Cuban people are going through and expressed his full support.

I am thinking right now of the victims and the anguish of the family members for the dead, the injured or those missing during the event, Lambert said about the fire triggered on Friday when a lightning struck one of the fuel storage tanks located at the industrial zone of the western province, where one person died, more than 100 are injured and 14 are missing.

He also acknowledged the extreme courage by the firefighters and other protection forces, as well as the international solidarity in the face of the raging fire, still out of control.

According to the former parliamentarian, the catastrophe that Cuba is experiencing demands solidarity, but also the ratification of the demand for the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades.

The French Communist Party and La France Insoumise party, the France Cuba, Cuba Si France, Cuba Linda and Cuba Cooperation France solidarity associations, and union leaders such as Cedric Quintin, secretary general of the CGT in Val-de-Marne, also expressed solidarity with the Caribbean nation.
