Sigmar Polke’s legacy is showcased throughout several paths of contemporary art. The German painter, undisputable reference of artistic postmodernism, successfully converged the notions of postmodern art with the welter of popular culture, the kirsch, advertisement…the sharp discourse, essentially critical.

The National Museum of Fine Arts exhibits up until next June, when we will honor the 12th anniversary of Polke’s death, the exhibition Musica de una Fuente desconocida, which favors a rapprochement to a very important creative stage of his life.

We can all enjoy from art works that range from art pop figurations to suggestive and always relative abstractions. There is an emphatic treatment of color that cannot be ignored.

If we want to fully understand many of the implications of pop art, or of that trend that has been called capitalist realism, which was rather a pictorial "anti-style," we have to approach Polke's work. Hence, the significance of the Fine Arts exhibition.

Next Tuesday, the Museum will present the catalog of the exhibition, which includes reproductions of the works and the curators’ assessments.
