Havana, August 19 (RHC)-- Recovery actions at the Matanzas Supertanker Base were the focus of a meeting headed by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, on Thursday.

Marrero Cruz urged authorities and institutions of the western province to have a detailed timetable for rehabilitating the city's Industrial Zone.

Unión Cuba Petróleo (CUPET) informed its workers and specialists are engaged in dismantling pipe fittings, reestablishing the electric power system, and removing the soil impacted by the fire.

The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, the Electrical Union, and other institutions also briefed on the actions they are implementing.

The Ministry of Construction is involved in demolishing damaged buildings and evaluating those that can be preserved.

It was also reported that the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment included monitoring the analysis of rain, air, and dust in the provinces of Matanzas, Mayabeque, and Havana. These territories were influenced by the smoke cloud emanating from the damaged tanks.

According to that ministry's authorities, there are no reports of diseases associated with the deflagration.

The governor of Matanzas, Mario Sabines, informed that the affected families continue to be assisted, specifically those residing in the disaster area. He said there had been a daily exchange between the authorities and these families, to whom they have been delivering cleaning products, clothes, and other necessary goods.

Based on collegiate ideas between the Civil Defense, CITMA specialists, and the Ministry of Public Health, the authorities of the territory decided to postpone the return to their homes of a group of people who continue to be sheltered in a state center,  homes of relatives and friends, while the necessary conditions for their return are created.
