According to a new poll published this Friday, the former president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, leads the voting intention for the 2022 presidential elections in that country, when he would obtain 43.3 percent of the votes against 38.2 percent of the current head of state, Jair Bolsonaro.

Released by the Paraná Pesquisas Institute, the survey indicates that Lula grew 3.1 percent compared to the company's last sampling, while Bolsonaro fell 1.8 percentage points.   The founder of the Workers' Party also attracts less rejection and has greater voting potential. While 46.7 percent of the sample responded that they would not vote for the PT at all, with the current President the rate is 53.3 percent.

In this research, approximately 2,010 people were consulted in 26 states and the Federal District, between July 24 and 28. Its margin of error is two percentage points.

Bolsonaro's unpopularity is manifested on this occasion in coincidence with the progress of the work of the Senate commission investigating the government's management of Covid-19, which has already claimed more than 550,000 deaths in the South American country.

The survey, contracted by the Social Liberal Party (PSL), revealed that the presenter José Luiz Datena appears in third place in voting intentions, ahead of names such as Ciro Gomes, of the Democratic Labor Party (PDT), with 6.8 percent, and João Dória, of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), with 3.9 percent.

Lula da Silva recovered his political rights last April 16, when the Federal Supreme Court annulled for conflict of jurisdiction four trials against him in the courts of Curitiba (capital of the southern state of Paraná) and decided that the cases should be reopened in other courts. The ruling did not exonerate him, but it left the previous convictions without effect.
