Havana will celebrate its 501st anniversary tomorrow, and today Cuban diva Omara Portuondo will give a concert accompanied by the Failde Orchestra and other artists invited to the event.

In the show at the Covarrubias Hall of the Cuban National Theater, the multi-awarded singer also celebrates the 90th birthday of Alfredo Sosabravo, National Plastic Arts Award.

During the concert, city officials will receive the certificate from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) accrediting Havana as a Creative City in the field of music. According to the organizers, the purpose of the concert is to show the public part of the repertoire that Portuondo performed during the online concert last October from the Sauto Theater in the city of Matanzas, some 100 kilometers east of Havana.

Portuondo and the Failde band are nominated this year for the Latin Grammy award in the Traditional Tropical Album category, with the albums Mariposas and Failde con Tumbao, respectively.

Omara, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday, was distinguished at the last edition of the contest with the Musical Excellence Award, the second personality on the island to receive it (Juan Formell 2013).
