After concluding his visit to the city of Santa Clara, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic of Cuba, traveled to Cienfuegos province to review ongoing investments at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes thermoelectric plant.
According to a thread published on the Cuban Presidency’s X account, Díaz-Canel observed that the major overhaul of Unit 4 is progressing, with its main systems nearing completion, following work that began months earlier to address boiler-related issues.
The intervention is part of broader efforts to stabilize the National Electric System (SEN) amid technically complex conditions, the post noted.
José Osvaldo Rodríguez, general director of the plant, reported that Unit 3 remains operational, currently generating 158 megawatts and consistently contributing to the country’s energy supply.
The Carlos Manuel de Céspedes plant provides 14 percent of Cuba’s national electricity generation from thermal sources, making it a strategic facility for the nation’s energy security.
The Cuban leader emphasized the importance of accelerating investment projects, addressing existing delays, and ensuring adherence to established timelines, in order to maintain the stability and efficiency of the SEN.
