Cuba’s President oversees recovery actions in Pinar del Rio

Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Diaz-Canel is visiting today Pinar del Rio to oversee recovery actions from the huge damage hurricane Ian caused in the westernmost province of Cuba.

He traveled to Pinar del Rio after checking on site damaged areas in Havana, such as corner of Calzada Ave and Paseo Ave flooded by the sea surge the hurricane caused, and 12th Street between 5th and 7th streets, Miramar, where several recovery crews are making cleanup work, taking away trees tumbled by the strong storm.

In Havana, the meteorological event caused damage to much of the electrical circuits, five total landslides, 68 partial landslides and more than a thousand downed trees, although the damage was still being assessed.

Hurricane Ian left behind 118 millimeters of accumulated rainfall and sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour (km/h) with gusts of up to 136 km/h.

More than 16,200 people were evacuated for their protection. The province most affected by the meteor was Pinar del Río, where two people died and numerous houses were damaged by the action of the winds.
