Literature related to issues such as racism, segregation, ethnic origins, rights and identity, stands out today among the proposals of the 31st Havana International Book Fair.

Several imprints of the Caribbean island, with a history of dealing with these issues, returned to the country’s biggest literary event with a selection of texts that shed some light on history, the latent discrimination in society and the vindication of the African heritage.

In that sense, the volume Cuban Revolution vs. racism, signed by a collective of authors and published by Ciencias Sociales publishing house, stands out, while writer Iris Rosales will present Lo taíno en la literatura fantástica y de ciencia ficción cubana (The Taino in Cuban fantastic and science fiction literature).

Likewise, Sensemayá, a publishing house attached to the Nicolás Guillén Foundation, proposes the titles “Tools to develop equity focus”, by Geydis Elena Fundora Nevot and “Afrofeminist Voices”, by Rosa Campoalegre Septiem.

Among the volumes, stand out the compilation of articles entitled “To not Forget”, as well as “José Antonio Aponte the Forerunner and Non-imagined Dialogues”. Interview with Rogelio Martínez Furé, all written by Heriberto Feraudy Espino. Meanwhile, the Cuban Book Institute, the Fernando Ortiz Foundation and the Jose Antonio Aponte Commission of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba organized the First Meeting on Slavery and Racism.

In that space, there will be a panel on Racism, promoted by the New Millenium Publishing House, which is part of the agenda of the Social Sciences Forum, while there will be an exchange on Ortiz’s literary work and the validity of his thinking.
