The National Union of Architects and Construction Engineers of Cuba (UNAICC) distinguished Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic, with the condition of Honorary Associate.

The award was received by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Secretariat of the PCC and head of the Economic-Productive Department at the closing ceremony of the 9th Congress of the UNAICC, held this Friday at the Havana Convention Palace.

René Mesa Villafaña, Minister of Construction, conveyed a message of gratitude from Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister and also Honorary Associate.

Marrero Cruz was aware of the development of the event and its projections to contribute to the country’s socio-economic development, said Mesa Villafaña, who delivered the closing speech of the three-day meeting with nearly 300 delegates.

Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez, one of the Five Heroes of the Republic of Cuba and the new president of the UNAICC, announced the National Electoral Commission after the presentation of the candidacy and the result of the voting.

More than 100 members of the group, young people, retirees, grassroots sections, specialized societies, provincial representatives, directors, and commissions received diplomas of recognition for their efforts in the term of office from 2018 to 2022.

Likewise, the members of its National Committee, the National Board of Directors, and the National Ethics Commission, formed by several founders of UNAICC were also announced.  UNAICC was created on December 3, 1983, at the initiative of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and as a tribute to Armando Mestre Martinez, assailant of the Moncada Barracks and expeditionary of the Granma yacht.

During the deliberations of the congress, Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman Waugh and Queipo Ruiz himself took part and agreed on the contributions that the associates can make with their knowledge in proposing plans and projects.

With more than 13 thousand members, this non-governmental organization has a structure of high professional value in its societies of Architecture; Civil Engineering; Hydraulic Engineering; Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering; and Geosciences and Chemistry, all applied to construction.
