The panel Inter-ministerial Mechanism with the One Health approach, held in the context of the V International Convention “Cuba Salud 2025”, underscored the active, integral and coherent participation of the Central State Administration bodies in the Cuban health program.

As stated by one of the panelists, it is unusual to see so many ministers from the same country presenting ideas and results about a common theme at a scientific conference, much less under the leadership of the head of government himself, in this case Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz.

The Premier pointed out that Cuba embraced the One Health approach in 2015―following the agreements of the tripartite alliance of United Nations agencies in 2010―as a strategy to provide optimal health care to people, animals and ecosystems through prevention, control and rapid
response actions to counter any danger through a cross-sectional and multidisciplinary engagement of communities nationwide.

He noted that 2021 marked the approval of a government project under the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030 to count on a legal platform with a view to the implementation of the approach, improve diagnosis and surveillance for early warning and rapid response, and develop the prevention and control of zoonosis, food safety and security, and the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

Mr. Marrero congratulated Minister of Public Health Dr. José Angel Portal Miranda and his team for the magnificent organization of “Cuba Salud 2025”.
