Havana, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's House of the Americas today thanked the Colombian embassy in this country for 18 books donated that make up the Library of Colombian Women Writers of that institution.

It is a necessary and beautiful project that seeks to safeguard and make visible the literature made by women from that Latin American country, published the renowned cultural promoter center, based in this capital, on its Twitter account.

The Casa de las Américas library was founded in 1959 with the aim of promoting the cultural reality of Latin America and the Caribbean. Since then, it has increased its holdings with the most representative bibliographic and hemerographic documents of the region’s literature, art and social sciences.

According to the institution, it houses more than 126,000 volumes of books, 136,000 fascicles of periodical publications -especially from the second half of the 20th century- and a Vertical Archive that exceeds three thousand folders on personalities and topics related to Latin America and Caribbean.

In addition, it maintains under its custody an audiovisual archive organized into its two fundamental collections: the Word Archive and the Music Collection.

These funds grow through the exchange and donations fostered through collaborative links with various cultural institutions, study centers and personalities from around the world.
