Cuba seeks to boost economy and defense

Havana, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) The traditional celebration in Cuba of the July 26 events, Day of the National Rebellion, will be the occasion to redouble efforts in the main activities prepared by the country, a senior political official said on Thursday.

Roberto Morales Ojeda, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and its Secretary of Organization on Thursday tweeted that the period to celebrate that historic event, from June 1 through July 31, will be an exceptional occasion to boost the main economic, social and defense tasks of the country.

Precisely, on Wednesday, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of PCC agreed to choose Cienfuegos province, in central southern Cuba, as the seat of the ceremony for the 69th anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes garrisons on July 26.

In Cuba, it is traditional to choose as the venue for this important celebration that territory that during the last year has been the most outstanding regarding all or most of the main programs it carries out.

Cienfuegos was chosen due to its favorable economic indicators, the boost to production poles and the diversification of its farming productions. Although it did not fulfill the plan of the recently ended sugar harvest, it has had steady results for the past three years.

It also fulfilled the program of housing construction and achieved encouraging progress in tourism, transportation, domestic trade and computerization among other spheres. It also worked hard in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, Granma daily reported on Thursday

Besides the celebration in Cienfuegos, the PCC leaders praised the entire country for overcoming hardships and experiencing one of the most beautiful pages of heroism and devotion to the defense of the nation and our colossal work of justice in the face of the continuous attacks of the US empire.
