Cuba participated in the 18th Top Level Meeting of the Mechanism for Coordination and Cooperation regarding drugs between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the European Union. During the event, which was held between June 14-17 in the Hague (Netherlands), Copolad II was launched. The program is aimed at developing cooperation between Latin America and the European Union (EU) on drugs and this time also includes Caribbean countries, diplomatic sources reported today.
The delegates exchanged ideas and experiences about the world drug problem, as well as the results and implementation of the agreements of the UN General Assembly Special Session on the world drug problem that was held in April.
Cuba presented its experiences in fighting this evil, which is based on the implementation of an integrated policy, with the participation of different authorities and supported by social organizations.
The event concluded with the approval of the Hague Statement that expresses bi-regional disagreement on adoption of unilateral lists and certifications that violate international law, and recognizes the need to take into consideration the principle of common and shared responsibility to counter the world drug problem.
The session was attended by representatives of around 40 countries from both regions, the EU institutions and other agencies relevant to the issue.
The Cuban delegation was composed of Claudio Ramos, director of International Relations of the Justice Ministry; Fermín Quiñones, ambassador to the Netherlands and Victor Cairo, counselor for the diplomatic representation to the EU.
