Raul attends gala to celebrate 50th anniversary of CUJAE

Army General Raul Castro Ruz, First Secretary of Cuba´s PCC and President of the Council of State and Minister, attended yesterday the gala to celebrate the 50th anniversary of CUJAE (Higher Polytechnic Institute Jose Antonio Echeverria).

The ceremony took place at Karl Marx Theater. Members of the Political Bureau like First Vice-president Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Vice-president of the Council of State and Minister Ramiro Valdez Menendez also attended the gala.

Founders, Honoraries Doctorates, Honorary Professors, and students from the prestigious technological center also participated in the event. It was recalled the opening the CUJAE (then University City), which took place on December 2nd, 1964, led by Fidel Castro, historical leader of the Cuban Revolution.

A set of 10 lithographs made by six Cuban artists led by Alexander Leyva (Kcho) were given as a gift to Commander in Chief and Raul.

The CUJAE still has the spirit of Jose Antonio Echeverria. He inspires our 57,520 engineers and architects graduated since the university was founded, highlighted Alicia Alonso Becerra, CUJAE´s principal.

Aware of the challenges of the future, she congratulated the university achievements in the formation of professionals in the seven schools, specifically in the postgraduate course, research, and university extension.

On behalf of the teaching staff, the Honorary Professor Norberto Marrero de Leon recalled CUJAE´s history and urged new generations to carry educational, practical results to superior stages, in a world marked by whirling scientific and technological advances.

During the ceremony, Gustavo Cobreiro Suarez, member of the Central Committee of the PCC and principal of the University of Havana, was given a special recognition due to the University of Havana contribution to CUJAE´s strengthening throughout the years.

A Commemorative Stamp for the 50th anniversary was given to professors with more than 15 years of service and continues working at CUJAE.

The gala, dedicated to the 58th anniversary of FAR (Revolutionary Armed Forces), closed with the performance of duet Buena Fé.
