Cuban Customs Thwarts International Drug Trafficking Attempt

The General Customs of the Republic of Cuba seized 19 sheets infused with synthetic cannabinoids, commonly referred to as "Químico," in a shipment arriving from the United States. The illicit substance was hidden inside a cereal box, a tactic used to exploit tariff exemptions, but was intercepted before 22,800 doses could reach the public.

The General Customs of the Republic of Cuba thwarted an international drug trafficking attempt by detecting and seizing 19 sheets impregnated with synthetic cannabinoids, known as "Químico," in a shipment originating from the United States.

Wiliam Pérez González, First Deputy Chief of the entity, reported via his profile on the social network X that the illicit material was discovered hidden inside a cereal box. This demonstrates the use of goods included in tariff exemptions in an attempt to bypass customs controls.

The official stated that the United States constitutes the primary source of this drug, which has a significant impact on the youth. For this reason, severe legal and criminal measures are applied in all detected cases.

He specified that, thanks to the efforts of Customs and the Anti-Drug Agency, the consumption of 22,800 doses was prevented. This result reaffirms the effectiveness of border control actions.

Cuba maintains a firm zero-tolerance policy regarding drug trafficking and consumption as part of its national security and public health strategy.
