Cuba Wins with Comeback Against Curaçao in Americas Series

Eleven-Run Sixth Inning Fuels Epic Cuban Rally in Venezuela
With an epic comeback, the Cuban baseball team defeated the Curaçao Cannons 14-12 today and evened its win-loss record in the 2026 Gran Caribe Americas Series.
An 11-run sixth inning allowed the team led by Germán Mesa to turn the scoreboard around on the turf of the Simón Bolívar Monumental Stadium in the Venezuelan capital.
Early Deficit Overcome
The Curaçao team had crossed the plate ten times in the first four innings against pitchers Darío Sarduy, José Ignacio Bermúdez, Yankiel Mauris, and Yadián Martínez, which foreshadowed another tough ending for the game.
Hits by Yoelquis Guibert and Alfredo Despaigne—the latter as a pinch-hitter—decided the fate of the contest, which marked the Cubans' second victory with an equal number of losses in the tournament. Reliever Michel Cabrera earned the win, and Frank Abel Álvarez was credited with a save.
Other Results and Standings
Monday's slate also included the Colombian Barranquilla Caimans' 8-0 shutout of Argentina's Daom Club. In the nightcap, the Nicaraguan León Lions face the undefeated leader, Panama's Metropolitan Eagles.
In the standings, behind the Canaleros (3-0) are the host Magallanes Navigators and the Caimans, both with 3-1, Cuba (2-2), Argentina and Nicaragua (1-3), and Curaçao (1-4).
Crucial Matchup Ahead
The Cubans will face the Panamanian squad this Tuesday, a crucial game in their aspirations to secure a spot among the four semifinalists.
