The trio of fighters from the largest Antillean island present at the event being held in the Russian city of Chita suffered the defeat of middleweight Raúl Castillo (75 kg), by unanimous decision of the five judges officiating in the bout against Uzbekistan's Alixan Shaxbazov, according to the digital publication Jit.

The small Cuban delegation, led by coach Walfrido Ilizástiqui, was previously favored in the draw with the bronze medal obtained by Julio César Chivás (86 kg), who is set to face Belarusian Andry Hryharovich-Niavolin in the semifinals.
